THE EVOLUTION OF MANAGED SERVICES – KNOW YOUR CUSTOMERS

Although it may be a vague term, managed services remains a good business model. So how do we use managed services? Why should we? The first argument is cost. IT spending is at the lowest it’s been since it became popular a decade ago. The low cost is a reason many end users are interested in the first place. However the primary drive isn’t just savings. Benefits such as worker productivity will rise. Many small firms lack the IT staff leaving tech related issues to the most capable in the office, this extra load of chores will distract from their full time duties. In-house IT staff will work in a way that fixes problems when they arise as opposed to preventing these issues in the first place. This is due to staff shortage and lack of resources. Companies who use managed services are trying to be more proactive with their approach to IT. If executives expect higher productivity at lower costs without changing anything then productivity will likely not change. A managed service provider offers a complete solution.

Many companies refuse to use managed services. They are possibly large corporates who feel their organisation is too big to go through change and their customers won’t like it. They may be arrogant enough to believe that they don’t need to evolve as they are already successful. Some are on the fence and believe that change is possible although overwhelming. They may be made to evolve from those above, but they probably don’t want to. Then there are companies who use managed services as they want to evolve. They see their customers as partners who will embrace the evolution of technology with them. They want to be market leaders, they want to provide the latest solutions and focus on results rather than the hurdles to get there.

Which one are you?
